Light of the World

Pastor Lamberson returns to the gospel according to John, in 8:12, where Jesus continues to teach at the Festival of Booths.

John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

This Sunday as we celebrated communion together, and Jesus’ love for us as shown in His redemptive work on the cross for us, we reflected to the melodies of two hymns – “O, the Deep, Deep, Love of Jesus” and “What Wondrous Love is This?” If you are unfamiliar with the text of these hymns, here it is.

“O, the Deep, Deep, Love of Jesus”

O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore!
How He watches o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
How for them He intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best!
’Tis an ocean full of blessing, ’tis a haven giving rest!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, ’tis a heaven of heavens to me;
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!

What Wondrous Love is This?

What wondrous love is this,
O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this
That caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul.

When I was sinking down,
Sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down
Beneath God’s righteous frown,
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul,
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul.

To God and to the Lamb
I will sing, I will sing,
To God and to the Lamb I will sing,
To God and to the Lamb
Who is the Great “I Am,”
While millions join the theme,
I will sing, I will sing,
While millions join the theme I will sing.

And when from death I’m free,
I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on,
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on
And when from death I’m free,
I’ll sing and joyful be,
And thro’ eternity I’ll sing, on I’ll sing on.
And thro’ eternity I’ll sing on.
